“Photography for me is like looking through the eye of a needle. It is life and the soul of the age that never gets old”
I am Olugboyega Akintan and I am a photographer. (_gaphotography – IG)
Being an entrepreneur in photography has its peculiarities, which we know it’s quite seasonal somewhat way. The instinct never came to me at first because all that was important was my educational career.
I had initially pursued a diploma in mechanical engineering at the University of Lagos and by the time I rounded up it still felt less, I wanted something more knowing the economic situation in terms of securing a job I just had to get a handy work of something. It wasn’t easy that I can testify and it would take more than an entire page to talk about the struggles on reaching this point that I am now but thanks to family, that’s how the idea of photography came. Lunching into it was somehow a suggestion gotten from my sister because I quite do remember the morning of how that came to be and boom!! all of sudden there I was scouting for the best photography school in Naija and yes I did find one; (The Shola Animasaun Photography Academy). After a couple of months of grooming and apprenticeship I decided to delve into my own photography career and have there been ups and downs?
Hell yes! …….. Crazy ones that can make me cry if I think about them. I remember my first photo shoot, it was so bad that I regretted doing anything that day or several times I was given a job and most came out really bad I felt stupid, also to talk about how I lost my car to flames, totally consumed beyond recognition, that became the height for me but I soon realized that, that’s where we are put to the test and the reason behind growth. “We must get to learn everyday” how to be strong, how to stay consistent in everything we do, how to ignore the setbacks and move on and how to create new form of growth every day. My learning was never a wasted time and thanks to (Shola Animasaun), under his tutelage I saw my dreams come to light and an astronomical rise to the photography world set in. It has only been God for me.
My passion and thirst grew more, I found myself getting Jobs and making progress that even over time I can’t even keep records of the amount of jobs gotten since I ventured into this journey.
Creativity is key and focus is another, photography is something I’ve sort to never give up on and even though I haven’t gotten to the climax of success as they put it, I still am a testimony to only but a few. Be the best of you; make a positive difference because I’ve chosen to make mine too.
